January

Once I went back to work in mid-January, the rest of the month flew by!  Here are a few pictures from playing in late January.

We bought a cool excersaucer/jumper for Tyler.  It is huge, but he really likes it.

Tyler started sitting in his high chair with us during meals.  He enjoys watching us eat and playing and banging his toys.

My sweet girl bought herself some Play Doh with some of her dollars from Nannie and Pop.  She has really enjoyed her new toy.  Mommy and Daddy like it too.  I forgot how fun Play Doh is!

Tyler at 4 months

I took Tyler in for his 4 month appointment last Monday.  He is 17 pounds, 3 ounces and 24.5 inches long.  Carly was 17 pounds, 4 ounces and 24.5 inches long at the same age.  Crazy!

At four months, Tyler is a happy, giggly baby most of the time.  He had his first cold around 3 months (Christmas), and he had a cold this week that turned into two ear infections.  He's not as smiley or giggly with those nasty colds, but he handles it pretty well.  I hope he doesn't take after his sister with ear infections.  She had several between 4 and 9 months old.

Tyler can roll from his tummy to his back but not his back to his tummy.  He's working on sitting up, but he still has a ways to go.  He does sit up in the Bumbo and his high chair to play for chunks of time.  He's also playing in his excersaucer more.  He loves to chew on rings, his hands, rattles, etc.  He can also pass a toy from one hand to the other.

In the last month, I've noticed Tyler using his left hand more than his right.  I could be wrong, but I suspect he may be left handed.  Only time will tell!

In the last month, we stopped swaddling Tyler for naps and night time, but we did start giving him a paci.  He had been breaking out of his swaddle almost every night for a few weeks.  I was tired of waking up to comfort him at 3, 5, etc, so we moved to the paci.  Unfortunately he has continued to wake up, probably due to his cold, but I hope he gets back to his 11 hour sleeping habits soon.  He does calm down fast, but in the past week he has had several nights of waking at 2, 3, 4, 4:30, 5, 5:30 . . . Rough!

Tyler is still nursing, though he has had a couple of bottles of formula.  We'll start him on rice cereal in a week or two - once he recovers from the ear infection.

Play Date (aka Shed Construction)

Jimmy, Shannon, and Brayden came over to put together a shed we bought to store children's plastic things.  Thanks Jimmy.  Shannon, Carly, the boys, and I enjoyed our play date.

Brayden is 6 weeks younger than Tyler.

Last Wednesday Outing

I took Carly (and Tyler) to the Museum of Nature and Science for our last Wednesday outing.  Carly had only been once, for Aubrey Cate's third birthday party.  On Wednesdays, the museum has a storytime and craft.  Carly listened to a story about snow and then made a snowflake.  She had fun with the activity.

We then enjoyed the Children's Museum area.

She loves their fire truck and slide.
Her favorite part was the water table.  It was closed most of the time we were there, but just as I was ready to leave they opened it up.  She had fun splashing and of course was a tad wet when we left.
She found a sandbox where she could dig like an archaeologist.  I didn't really want a sandy kid, but I figured she would have fun.  And she did!

It was a fun outing, complete with a trip to Chick fil A.  I thoroughly enjoyed my Wednesday outings with Carly on maternity leave, and I hope to make more time for these outings even though I'm back at work.

Tyler's giggles

Tyler first giggled when he was about 11 weeks old, but it was hard work to get him to giggle.  At 3.5 months, we were finallly able to finally get some good giggles out of him.  He's a giggling fool now, especially when his big sister is playing with him!  This video is from one morning in Whistler.

Snow!

We had a dusting of snow on Sunday, January 9th.  Carly was thrilled and couldn't wait to go outside to play.

She had fun walking around, catching snow on her tongue, scraping it off the bushes to eat, etc.

After the fun in the snow, Carly and Tyler snuggled on the couch for a picture.  Love this picture of the two of them!

Whistler!

After all the Christmas festivities, John, Tyler, and I headed to Whistler with my girlfriends and their husbands.  Carly was on vacation at Nannie and Pop's house.  She had a great time with them, playing with Madison and Riley and generally soaking up some Nannie and Pop love.  We missed her, but I knew she wouldn't love being in the cold, and she was a bit too young for skiing.

Tyler made the trip with us, which included his first flight.  He's a bit fussier than Carly was on flights, but overall he was great.  He slept a lot.  He still had a cold and was spitting up a ton, but other than that issue, I have no complaints.

While in Whistler, Tyler and I hung out in the condo or walked around with Jenny and Joe while the rest of the gang went skiing.  Anytime we ventured outside, we bundled Tyler up in his snowsuit. . . .

This is how he spent all his outdoor time.  It was pretty awesome, actually.  He stayed warm, and he couldn't really move in the snowsuit.  Most of the time he would fall asleep pretty fast.

The mountains were gorgeous.  The skiing was pretty fabulous too, so I heard.
The skiers on day 1.
John and Jason.  Jason is one of my great high school friends and always joins us on these trips.
Doesn't Tyler look cozy?  Or maybe just defeated!
Like I said, he fell asleep almost every time in the Baby Bjorn.  Pretty funny.
On the second day, Jenny, Joe, Tyler and I purchased sightseeing lift tickets so we could go to the top of the mountain.  We rode a covered gondola up the mountain and met the skiing gang for lunch.

Jenny, Tyler and I at the top of the mountain.  Note that Tyler is zonked out.

After lunch we got a few group shots.  The girls - Laura, Lana, Jenny, and Amy.
Here's our crazy expensive group shot.  It turned out well, so we had to buy it.
After lunch, we boarded the Peak to Peak gondola which took us from the Whistler peak to the Blackcomb peak.  Pretty awesome views!

At night, we spent a lot of time in a pub next to our condo.  We (Thomas) even convinced the pub to show the Arkansas football game for us.  Pretty awesome, except Arkansas lost.

The whole gang.

Tyler was great on the trip home.  We had a great vacation and really enjoyed the time with our friends.  Thanks Howard and Sue!
